Buy valentine's days gifts

I’ve seen a lot of recommended Valentine's days gifts, and sadly I have to report that the big gift this year seems to be a USB drive with some crystals on it that can be worn as a necklace.  That seems like a very sad present, although I suppose that there are one or two fair maidens that think it’s the greatest.

We’ll have to try a little harder than that, boys.  The hearts of fair maidens are not often won with faint gifts.

This may well not be within the range of your finances right now, but these little marvels are are a huge hit.  Backed by the availability of a million apps, everything from Netflix and HBO Go to Kindle reader and Bejeweled, the iPad mini is a sure fire killer-gift.   Although I was skeptical at first of a smaller foot print iPad, when I saw that my wife routinely carries hers in her purse and it weighs in the same as Amazon’s kindle, I became a believer.

Ok, so you buy valentine's days gifts (or dinner is your gift) and now you need to set the scene.  When making that key reservation do you:  A.  Wait all day to call the restaurant and then listen to a busy signal for 20 minutes waiting for them to pick-up? Or B. Search through Open Table as soon as you think of it and book that dinner in less than two minutes?  No fuss, no muss and easy searching for alternatives when the restaurant you first thought of is full.

Just in case you haven’t got Fandango, now is the time.  It’s free and simply the best way to get movie tickets.  If you have an iPhone you can ask Siri for “Movie tickets tonight” and it will bring up Fandango’s list of what’s playing and at what time.  Or you could say “Movie tickets tonight at 7:00” and Siri will bring up Fandango and list what’s showing near you from 6:45 to 7:15.  Movies never really start on time anyway.  Quick, easy tickets, anywhere anytime.

Usually we give suggestions for gifts for men as well, but I’ve found that the ladies aren’t really interested.  Valentines day is evolving into a women’s holiday, and usually women don’t need a lot of help selecting a gift if they are giving one.   However, just in case  here is a tech secret.  The first guide line in the attractive tech gifts for men is how it stands in the 3 count challenge.  That is simply a count of LPU (lights per unit), KPU (knobs or controls per unit) and FPU (functions per unit - the things it says it does).  Just count each one of these and if the combined total is over 20, for pocket-sized devices and 50 for larger devices,  you have a winner.  Happy Valentines day!
